What started as a disjointed main level with a different flooring type in each room, now is an inviting, harmonious space. Bringing it all together – Killarney Kingfisher‘s warm, golden tones throughout.

Before the renovation, the main level was patched together with red oak flooring, plywood, “bowling alley” flooring, ceramic tile and painted trim pieces. All the competing materials cluttered the design and fractured the main level. By choosing Killarney Kingfisher as the grounding material throughout, she kept the coziness of separate rooms while establishing cohesion throughout.

In the living room, the earthy, sophisticated palette invites you to pause and relax. Neutral layers balance the furnishings’ deep tones and gold finishes lend subtle glam, a signature of Day’s “laid-back luxe” style. The flooring carries warmth seamlessly throughout, echoing the walnut cabinetry in the adjoining kitchen.

Moody yet inviting, Day showcases her signature “laid-back luxe” style in this dining room. With a rich color palette and cozy furnishings, the room becomes a sophisticated gathering space. 

Continuing the moody and layered tones, the dark-walled dining room is lit by brass lighting and large windows. Kingfisher continues through the space, softening the rich plum walls and complementing the large family table. The consistent flooring leads you through the arched doorway, smoothly linking the adjoining spaces.

Natural textures and harmonious contrasts define the kitchen, where Taj Mahal quartzite and walnut cabinetry blend with the soft warmth of Killarney Kingfisher underfoot.

Taking center stage, textured tones in the kitchen form a refined space to cook and gather. The gentle, organic movement of the Taj Mahal quartzite quietly flows, elevated by the soft texture of Killarney Kingfisher underfoot. The walnut cabinets and matte black appliances introduce a tailored counterpoint to the otherwise ethereal palette.

By centering the main level in Killarney Kingfisher, Day transformed a once fractured main level into a calm, effortlessly cohesive space to relax and gather. The flooring connects each room and allows the layered palette and rich textures to shine. This project reveals that a single, well-chosen foundation can elevate any design and add harmony to a home.
