It’s inspired by the rough milled hardwood planks used throughout the world for hundreds of years, not for glamorous palaces and estates, but the storage buildings, barns and mills usually kept out of sight behind the home.
These buildings had to be built with materials that would stand the test of time, the elements, and hard work. Durable hardwood planks were run through the sawmill quickly and without concern for a smooth face like those used to decorate fine homes. Instead, the sawblade commonly left its signature on the face of the planks and generations of use in exposure to the changes of seasons and harsh elements would wear the soft grain away and cause unevenness in its thickness.
