Social Entrepreneurship, Environmental Stewardship and Real Wood Floors

Social Entrepreneurship, Environmental Stewardship and Real Wood Floors
At Real Wood Floors, we knew we wanted to do things different.  As a company that requires the resources of our planet and the people who reside on it, we wanted to be a forward thinking enterprise.  One that others would look at as not just an industry leader of engineered hardwood floors, but that reflects what can be great about the American Corporation.
    Social Entrepreneurship
Our efforts to better the world around us and make an impact on an individual’s life started back in 2007, when we made our first trip to Shepherd’s Field Children’s Orphanage and assisted in making the children’s lives better through our skills in the flooring industry.  The crew of Real Wood Floor’s employees and contractors laid over 9,000 square feet of 3 ¼” Walnut flooring in 6 days, and we spent our free time playing with the wonderful children that populated Shepherd’s Field.
We followed up 2007, by revisiting Shepherd’s Field and laying an addition 8,500 square feet, and in 2010, 8,000 square feet.  In total, Real Wood Floors has provided over 25,500 square feet of flooring and over $50,000 in donations to the work of Shepherd’s Field.
As we move forward, our small mission of helping has grown, and in the coming years we are looking in new areas to continue with our efforts expanding to other countries and even here at home.  Along with our Mission, we are working on creating our Foundation Fiona’s Hope and the charity One Box / One Day.
    Environmental Stewardship
Real Wood Floors understands how important our impact on the environment is and we want to insure that our footprint is as small as possible.  We do this by partnering with lumber suppliers who procure hardwoods in an environmentally sustainable way, but our stewardship does not stop there.  Once we have the lumber,  we make our floors using a thick wear layer of hardwood that can withstand years of abuse, only needing to be sanded or refinished should the floor become scuffed or scratched.  By using a thicker wear layer it can be brought back to its original beauty without having to be replaced, thusly using more wood.  We want our floors to last as long as your home.
    Moving Forward
At Real Wood Floors we are always looking for ways to innovate, change and do things differently.  From our Green Specifying to make sure that large commercial projects create far less waste, to our belief in Sustainable Forestry, Real Wood Floors not only wants to be the manufacturer of choice when it comes to hardwood floors, we want to be an active participant in making this world a better place.
