    2 New Trends in Flooring

    Floors are not only where a person walks, but also can be works of art if done with care.  Wood floors create beauty and design that carpet can never hope to match.  Here are some new and innovative ways builders are making rooms beautiful and one of a kind.

    1.  Cork
    Light Cork

    Composed of millions of tiny cellular air pockets, cork is an extraordinary insulator, quiet,warm and exceptionally comfortable to walk on. Cork reduces heat loss in rooms, helping to maintain a pleasant indoor temperature - never too hot or too cool. Indoor air quality actually improves with cork flooring. It is also hypo-allergenic and insect resistant. Mites and even termites are repelled due to a naturally occurring substance in cork called Suberin.

    Dark Cork

    Cork is produced from the bark of the cork oak tree. Cork is a renewable and sustainable resource. There isn’t a man-made material that can match cork, nor is one ever likely to take its place. Cork’s structure is very similar to a honeycomb; each square centimetre is composed of 40 million cells. These cells, as well as the spaces between them, are filled with a gaseous mixture similar to air. This unique structure and composition creates the three most important characteristics in its application as flooring:

      Insulation
      Sound Reduction
      Elasticity

    Primarily harvested within Portugal, cork oak plantations take bark from trees that are 25-30 years old, as only then it is considered a fully grown tree. The manual process of stripping off the bark in sections goes back hundred of years. When the bark is removed, the tree is not damaged and the bark regrows completely, taking on a smoother texture after each harvest. Harvesting only occurs once every nine years and a cork oak can live for 150-200 years, so it can be safely harvested up to 20 times during its life cycle.

    It is a truly an inexhaustible and natural resource.

    2.  Leather

    Dark Leather

    Leather tiles create a luxurious environment that is both warm and welcoming. Their versatility allows interiors to be either contemporary or traditional. As soon as you enter a room with a leather floor or wall, you are surrounded by a subtle, inviting aroma. Warm to the touch, your leather floor and wall tiles will provide years of enjoyment.

    Light Leather

    Leather tiles also help absorb sound, making them an excellent choice for boardrooms, screening rooms, libraries, dens and bedrooms. The leather tiles are also naturally fire retardant.
